SAMFA Holds Annual Meeting The Southern Alberta Minor Football Association (SAMFA) held its Annual General Meeting in Lethbridge February 18th 2012. Plans for the 2012 season and completion of the past season were among the many items that were discussed and approved. The 2011 season won't officially wrap up until April when the SAMFA All Star Game will be played at University Stadium in Lethbridge. The All Star Game is usually played in November after the Provincial Bantam Football Championships. But the 2011 game was moved to this spring to accommodate the Alberta Bowl High School Football Provincial Championships that were played in Lethbridge last fall. The game is scheduled for April 28 at 2 pm, with players and coaches from every team in the league represented. Later that vening SAMFA will host a banquet to present its annual awards and all stars. University of Calgary Dinos Head Coach Blake Nill is tentatively scheduled as the guest speaker. SAMFA has welcomed the Magrath Wolverines back into the league after a five year hiatus. The Wolverines were forced to drop out of the bantam league for a few years but continued operation of a developmental pee wee football program. Now the team is ready to resume a full schedule at the bantam level. Magrath's return to SAMFA means the league will operate with fifteen teams for the 2012 season. Many of the players and coaches at the bantam level will also have a busy spring and summer to prepare and represent the south zone in the Alberta Summer Games that will be held in Lethbridge. All players competing in the Games must be registered with Football Alberta. Regional try outs will be held in Medicine Hat on May 5 and in Lethbridge on May 12. The final selection camp is scheduled for May 26.
